Try the engine in one click: demo project, color-coded parts, and SVG & DWG import

Judging a nesting engine means judging it on your parts — but preparing a test file is exactly the kind of chore that keeps people from trying a new tool. So we removed the chore entirely.

A demo project, waiting in every workspace

Every account now shows a pinned Demo — Marine sheet metal project at the top of its project list. It is a read-only library of 24 parametric sheet-metal parts — brackets, gussets, flanges, notched plates, quarter rings, frames — with pre-filled quantities: 304 parts totaling ~68% of a 3000 × 1500 mm sheet.

Open it, press Nest, and watch the engine work at full power: 4 compute cores, your pick of the 3 layout directions, ~90 seconds of optimization. No configuration needed — though every setting (sheet size, spacing, rotations, hole filling) is editable if you want to play.

Demo nestings are free and separate from your regular quota: 10 demo nestings per month, on top of the 10 free monthly nestings every account already gets. The demo exists for one reason: so you can see what the engine does before uploading anything of yours.

What to look for in the demo

The part set was designed to show off the features that are hardest to evaluate from a feature list:

  • Hole filling: the frames and flanges in the set are natural hosts — watch the engine drop 60 to 75 small parts inside their cutouts. On real jobs this is often the single biggest source of savings.
  • Directional alternatives: pick the direction (left edge, bottom edge, or balanced) and the engine optimizes for it — each producing a genuinely different remnant shape. Run the demo three times to see them all, or pick the offcut that goes back to stock.
  • Live solve: layouts stream in real time as the engine converges, with the evaluation counter and the core count visible.

Every part gets a color

Parts are now assigned a random, legible color at import — and that color follows the part everywhere: the parts list, the live animation, the result thumbnails, and the final colored preview in the result dialog (a raw DXF inspection view is one click away).

One deliberate choice: the downloadable production DXF keeps your original layers and colors untouched. Cutting machines and post-processors can key power, speed or cut order off entity colors — we color screens, not files.

Drop DXF, SVG or DWG

The upload now accepts three formats, detected by content signature and normalized server-side:

  • DXF — unchanged, the native path.
  • SVG — units, viewBox and nested transforms resolved at import; curves flattened at cutting tolerance; strokes read as center lines.
  • DWG — converted locally inside our workers by GNU LibreDWG. No external service ever sees your files (the zero-knowledge vault is opt-in on every plan), and unreadable files are rejected with a clear message instead of garbage geometry.

The output is still a clean, cut-ready DXF per sheet — plus the colored SVG preview.

Try it now

Create an account (no credit card), open the Demo project at the top of your list, and press Nest 304 files. The whole thing takes about 90 seconds — which is exactly how long it takes to judge a nesting engine properly.
